Title: Rail container continues to smolder

By TAMMI KATE LEDFORD

A Union Pacific container carrying bagged barbeque wood from Mexico began smoldering inside the container during transit. The train had departed Vaughn, New Mexico prior to the fire being noticed and reported. The contents burned through the bottom of the container and set fires on the track from the New Mexico state line to mile marker 551 at XIT Feeders. The container was packed floor to ceiling with the bagged wood product which apparently caught fire due to friction inside the bags.
