     Title: Texan named award winning newspaper
The 2012 Panhandle Press Association (PPA) Better Newspaper contest awards were presented on Saturday, April 6. The Annual conference began Thursday, April 4 at the Holiday Inn West Medical Center in Amarillo. The PPA Annual conference and awards include daily and weekly newspapers submissions in numerous categories from the Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma area.

The Annual conference began Thursday, April 4 at the Holiday Inn West Medical Center in Amarillo. The PPA Annual conference and awards include daily and weekly newspapers submissions in numerous categories from the Texas, New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma area.
The Dalhart Texan submitted their 2012 XIT Annual Rodeo and Reunion section; the cover featured a photo of local cowboy, Snuffy Pritchett taken by Texan publisher Susan Clay. The Burson family was the feature article for 76th XIT Rodeo and Reunion section which was highlighted with photos of the local family, present and past. The three section special edition was packed with information, color photos of local cowboys and the wonderful actors that performed in The Wild Wild Wildest West Melodrama. In addition, local businesses personalized their ads with photos that depict the spirit of the XIT Rodeo and Reunion. The 76th Annual XIT Rodeo and Reunion 28 page section was awarded first place with four excellent ratings from the judges in attractiveness of layout, suitability of content and originality and benefit to the community. Comments made by the judges were, “Great layout, was really impressed with the way you (Dalhart Texan) utilized photos both in news content and advertising.” The special section was laid out by Tammi Kate Ledford and Jonathan Scherer.
