Title: Texline ends season just short

By RODNEY WHITE

The forecast in Austin was for a 30 percent chance of rain with no mention of tornadoes, but by the time the Texline Tornadoes had pushed number one ranked Roxton into overtime the Roxton Lions had definitely issued a tornado warning.  Using a balanced attack led by Chance Helms, who along with Aaron Gutierrez each had 25 points, the Tornadoes almost completed their Cinderella season, but the dream came up just short with Texline losing in overtime 65-71.

In a game in which the lead changed nine times and was tied eight times, the Tornadoes never were out of the game as they made things happen on both ends of the court.  Helms had eight points at the end of the first quarter, which was tied at 15.  Turnovers proved costly for Texline in the first quarter, and for the game Texline committed 21 turnovers compared to 12 for Roxton.  Roxton was very effective as they scored 29 points off of turnovers.  Roxton Coach Shawn Dalbert said, “We had watched game film of Texline, and we knew we had to score in the transition game to win.”  Dalbert said, “Texline is very well coached, and the Texline players knew their rolls very well, and they had great three point shooters in Espino, Grimes and Guiterrez.”
