On Friday, October 5 between midnight and 8:00 a.m. Saturday, October 6 the Cattleman’s Livestock Auction barn was burglarized and vandalized according to Curtis Lockhart.
Hartley County Sheriff’s Officer (HCSO) Deputy Penny Loudder stated, “$440 in cash, $50 rolled coins, a bottle of Crown Royal and an unregistered Ruger SP101 were taken.” Loudder explained that Lockhart reported he drove by the sale barn around midnight and he told HCSO he didn’t notice any lights on in the building. However; when an employee arrived at the sale barn to medicate and feed livestock at approximately 8:00 a.m.  he eventually noticed that lights were on inside the building and shouldn’t have been. The burglar’s gained entry through a back door and broke in the office door and the safe causing significant damage to the doors and the locked safe.
