Title: 2009 Dallam County 4-H Memorial Scholarship recipients
The 2009 Dallam County 4-H Memorial Scholarship Recipients have been
announced. Cindy McMurry presented $750 each to Jordan Meador and
Julian Baca at the Dalhart High School Scholarship Awards program on
May 12th. Rosabell Baca presented Garth McDonald a $750 Scholarship.
In 1997 Dallam County 4-H Ambassadors solicited donations from area businesses, individuals, 4-Hers and their families, which increased this fund. Annually the Dallam County 4-H Parent Leaders Association contributes to the scholarship fund.
Julian Baca is the 18 year old son of Manuel Baca and the late Michelle Baca, a Senior at DHS. Julian is a 10 year Dallam County 4-H member. During his 4-H career, Julian has participated in Consumer Life Skills, Small Engines, Leadership and Career Exploration Projects. He has served on County Council serving as 1st Vice President, Health and Safety Officer and Historian. He has assisted with Rally Day, Bi-County Stock Show buyers, Leader Appreciation Dinner and Achievement Banquet. He has promoted 4-H by recruiting members and distributing flyers. Julian’s extra-curricular activities include Assembly of God Church Teen Member, Youth Group and Sunday School member, varsity football, basketball, 7 on 7 football, 3 on 3 basketball, track and baseball. His awards includes Bi-County Stock Show Ten Year Award, Letter Jacket-DHS Football, 4-H Gold Star, I Dare You Award, 1st Place District Consumer Decision Making, Council Delegate of the Year and Academic AB Honor roll-DHS. Julian plans to attend West Texas A & M.
Garth McDonald is the 18 year old son of Tom and Melissa McDonald, a senior at McDonald Christian School. Garth is a 10 year member of Dallam County 4-H. His projects have included Sheep (10 years), Beef and Steer & Heifer (4 years), Public Speaking (8 years) and Photography (6 years). He is currently serving on the Texas State 4-H Council, District 1 4-H Council 1st Vice President, and Dallam / Hartley County Teen Sheep & Goat Leader. Garth showed the Grand Champion Lamb in Dallam-Hartley County Show 2006, 07,08 and 09; Grand Champion Bi County Lamb Show 2009, 08, 06, and 04; 4th Place Lamb State Fair of Texas 2008; Grand Champion Steer Hartley County Show 2006; Grand Champion Heifer Bi County Show 2007; Illustrated Speech Contest, Texas Junior Hereford Association; 1st Team Marketing, Texas Junior Hereford Association; 2nd National Jr., Hereford Association and Reserve Division Champion Heifer, Texas Junior Hereford Association. Garth is a member of the Dalhart Church of Christ where he serves as Song Leader and Scripture Reader. He has served as a volunteer counselor at Black Mesa Bible Camp. He has served on the Tri State Fair Junior Board of Directors and the Texas Hereford Association Jr. Board of Directors. Garth will attend West Texas A&M in the fall.
