Health Insurance now available through Chamber of Commerce
By Robin Scott
At a recent press conference held at the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, Gary Molberg, President of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and Kristine Olsen, President of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, announced that health insurance is now available to members of the Chamber and their employees.
Through a cooperative effort initiated by the Amarillo Chamber, businesses in small communities such as Dalhart are eligible to enroll their employees in United Health Care. Members of the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce are encouraged to contact the Chamber for a list of authorized insurance companies to purchase the health care insurance through.
Molberg stated, “We want everyone to know that your area hospital is included in the coverage, as well as both Northwest Texas Hospital and BSA. There are also several different plans to choose from, so employers may fit the plan to their budget, as well as employees’ needs.”
Olsen noted that she and the Chamber’s one other employee are switching insurance carriers at a huge savings to the Chamber. She noted, “We are able to save quite a bit each year without losing any benefits.” Businesses with two employees or more, such as the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, may sign up for the coverage. The only requirement is that each member business must also become a member of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and pay their annual membership dues. Molberg commented, “The amount of the dues is very nominal and well worth the membership, plus our new members from outlying communities will also benefit in other ways from the Amarillo Chamber.” He added, “Our goal isn’t to pull members away from the Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce, but to include the smaller communities in this opportunity to be a part of a group healthcare plan.”
Most businesses in Dalhart aren’t large enough to get the benefit of a large group health insurance plan, but by signing up through the Chamber of Commerce they will not only become a member of a large group, but United Healthcare is offering a seven percent discount for coverage to every business that takes advantage of the offering. Olsen noted, “That is a huge discount that a person couldn’t get on their own by contacting United Healthcare. It is only available through this new program.”
Another great benefit to the plan is that an employee may choose individual coverage or family coverage. Further, healthcare, vision and dental are all available. The cost for the insurance will depend upon the plan chosen and each business will pick the plan that best suits them. Molberg noted, “Each business chooses what they want. They aren’t stuck with what works best for some other business.”
Some healthcare options include PPO plans, Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) plans, and Health Savings Account (HAS) plans, leading-edge wellness programs, CORA, premium-only plans, and Flexible Spending Account are available at no additional charge for the duration of the medical plan contract.
Also, exclusively offered through the Chamber of Commerce is a five percent savings on dental and vision plans. According to Molberg, “The Amarillo Chamber is taking bold and necessary steps to provide savings on comprehensive health care coverage to the Amarillo and surrounding business communities.”
