XIT Museum to host young artists
By Robin Scott
Last year just as the the Dallam-Hartley Counties Historical Association concluded its annual Art exhibit of student artists, the snow was beginning to fall in the area. That was March 26th and the blizzard that followed shut down Dalhart for days. This year’s celebration hopes to find fairer weather.
The XIT Museum will host the artists from Dalhart High School and Dalhart Junior High School on Tuesday, March 23rd beginning at 6:30 p.m. An artists’ reception will honor students from both schools.
The Art exhibit will encompass nearly all areas of the museum and will feature works by students in all levels of art classes. Each year the museum showcases the talent of the students of DISD and the event brings a crowd of area art enthusiasts, parents, friends, neighbors and well-wishers.
Las Viajeras Study Club will provide refreshments during the event. The club is part of a national organization whose focus is volunteerism. The museum’s annual meeting will follow the celebration. The museum sponsors several events throughout the year and is also home to many permanent collections. Visitors will have an opportunity to ask about upcoming summer programs designed to give children a chance to get hands-on experiences in different art mediums.
