Dalhart's cutest baby

According to great grandmother Jean Womble, little Legend Isaiah Stone is the cutest baby on earth.  It seems area residents agree with Jean, as Legend was just announced as the winner of the cutest baby contest in Dalhart.

Legend will celebrate his second birthday on March 22nd.   His mother, Jena Mae Thompson, resides in Dalhart with Legend, and he spends a lot of time with his great grandmother.  Womble stated, “I am proud of him.”  She added that she has so many grandchildren and great grandchildren that, “You don’t even want to know how many.”  Many know Womble as the widow of the late A.J. Womble, who passed away in 2005 after 58 years of marriage.  A.J. was a farmer and used car salesman.

The Womble’s have five children.  Sons include Joe, Gary and Rick, and daughters include Jan Prater and Sherry Truelock, who is the grandmother of Legend.  Womble noted, “Legend doesn’t have any living grandfathers, but he has three uncles that idolize him.”  All of the Womble family members were proud to hear that Legend received the recent honor.

Of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Womble stated that what makes Legend different is, “Because I’ve had him since he was a baby, and I keep him a lot.  I’m really attached to him.”  Womble, who now resides alone, enjoys her time with Legend immensely.

Womble decided to put Legend into the cutest baby contest and commented, “I think he’s a mighty cute little boy.”  Legend is able to spend a couple of days each week with his doting great grandmother.  Legend’s father, Shane Stone, lives in Amarillo and comes to see Legend quite often.

Legend’s smile is Womble’s favorite thing about him.  But it was hard to discover anything that Legend’s great grandmother doesn’t think is pretty spectacular about the little one.  She noted, “I don’t know how they came up with his name and at first I didn’t really like it, but I have gotten used to it.”  Womble describes Legend as, “One of the most loving children in the world.  He’s very loving.”
