Facebook Fan of the Day

More than 1,200 people have become fans of the Dalhart Texan’s Facebook page, and the number grows daily.  The Texan updates its page frequently, especially when something is occurring within the community that people want to know about right away.

Early on, the “Fan of the Day” was chosen from the fans of the Texan’s Facebook page.  The fan of the day is selected based upon a comment left that indicates that the fan is reading the page and the newspaper.  Each day that an edition of the Dalhart Texan comes out, a link is posted on the Facebook page allowing fans to go to the online version of the newspaper.

Many fans have written messages or sent instant messages asking, “How do I become the fan of the day?”  The answer is simple:  be sure to leave a comment about what has been read.  That’s it.  A fan’s profile picture is used to go along with the fan of the day designation.  Some days, no comments are left, so no fan of the day is chosen.

From the fan of the day, an idea came to expand the recognition by creating a column called, “I’m a Dalhart Texan Facebook fan.”  The first ever column appears on the back page of today’s newspaper.  The column will focus on those individuals who have become a fan of the day, and especially those individuals who regularly leave comments.  All that is required is permission to publish the profile picture or other picture in the newspaper, and a brief interview in person, over the telephone or via email, that lets other readers know about the fan.

Facebook reaches millions of people and allows its members to connect with long lost friends and family, new friends, colleagues, or as with the Dalhart Texan, to follow a favorite business or cause.  An upcoming class on how to use Facebook is scheduled for the first week in February through Community Connect with a follow up class for the more advanced Facebook user in early March.  Anyone interested should contact Sylvia Renick, Director for Community Connect, at 244-7818.

Anyone interested in becoming the “I’m a Dalhart Texan Facebook fan” for an upcoming edition of the Dalhart Texan is encouraged to write on the Wall of the Dalhart Texan’s Facebook page, or send a message, or contact Robin Scott.  Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!  Visit Facebook and become a fan of the Dalhart Texan today. Anyone needing help is asked to contact Robin Scott as well at 244-4511.  Become a Facebooker!
