Gifts fit for fitness
By Robin Scott
Dalhart’s Jump & Jam team showed their benevolent spirit recently when they made donations to Dalhart Intermediate School and Dalhart Elementary School. Both donations were of equipment that will be used for the fitness programs at both campuses.
The team purchased a set of Hula Hoops that were given to DIS. To DES they gave two 30 foot parachutes, also purchased by the team. The donated equipment will be used in the physical education classes as well as during the PE Program scheduled for Thursday, March 11th at the Dalhart High School Gym. The PE Program made its first appearance last spring and was a huge success causing standing room only.
The 2009/10 Dalhart Jump & Jam team is an elite demonstration jump rope team comprised of 29 members. Jumpers were taught the necessary skills during the regular PE classes. Between their practice time and performances the students jump hundreds of hours.
Area residents have enjoyed the jumpers all during basketball season as they have jumped at several games in Dalhart, Texline, Dumas and Hartley. The students will be at WTAMU on February 6th at 4:00 p.m. for an exciting performance. This year’s theme includes “tubular” music from the 80’s and the jumpers will perform some “gnarly” individual, partner and group routines. This “stellar” group really knows what it means to “whip it good.”
Team members include Desiree Boone, Dominique Smith, Connor Holiski, Eden Shimon, Dawson Nicholson, Molly Fluhman, Ryley Ellsworth, Jon Scott, Savannah Renshaw, Lyndsey Dovel, Anzleigh Swecker, Avry Thelander, Kaelee Simmons, Faith Claborn, Elyse White, Hannah Holmes, Gracie King, Kullen Sorrels, Mae Ferguson, Summer Simmons, Kyler Banks, Maddi Beckern, Taeler Sorrels, Ashlyn Banks, Konnor White, Natalie Ham, Raychel Banks, Jenna Dixon and Faith Vang and they are coached by Bridgett Nicholson, Tisha Scott and B’Lou Shimon.
