The concern over the Swine Flu is growing daily. Dalhart ISD is very concerned about the possibility of this becoming an epidemic. We are participating in calls daily with the Texas Department of Health and the Texas Education Agency. We are observing our students for any signs of the illness. If they have a fever, they are sent home and the parents are encouraged to seek medical attention if the fever persists or if they develop any other symptoms of the swine flu. As of Thursday, April 30th, we do not have any suspected cases of the illness. If a student shows any signs of the illness, we will be in contact with the Health Department to get confirmation on the type of illness that the child has.
The best thing that can be done is to try to prevent the spread of the flu or any other communicable disease. This can be done by practicing good hygiene. The most important thing for prevention is washing hands regularly throughout the day and refrain from eating and drinking after one another. We encourage frequent hand washing throughout the day while at school. Our custodial staff is increasing their efforts to keep all areas of the school disinfected. It is very important that each child is in school every day, but the safety of every student is of utmost importance. If your child is sick and running a fever, please keep them home.
Dalhart ISD is working very hard to stay informed with any developments locally and around the state. We want to do everything we can to prevent an outbreak of the swine flu in Dalhart.
