Lady Wolves lose to #3 Levelland

Dalhart faced off against the #3 ranked team in the state Friday night, and the young Dalhart squad held their own the first quarter. Levelland gradually pulled away to defeat the Lady Wolves, 50 -35. Dalhart is still looking for their first district win at 0-2 in district play.
Brynn Dunham tied the game early at 3 with two free throws. Tiffany Schumacher hit a jump shot to make the score 6-7. Jeana Sybesma followed with a basket to make the score 8-9 after a Dalhart time out. That was as close as Dalhart got, and at the end of the first quarter Dalhart trailed 8-14.
Levelland got six points in a row to start the second quarter, forcing a Dalhart time out with 5:35 left in the half, as Coach Klafka wanted to put a stop to the easy baskets that the Lady Lobos were getting. Tiffany Schumacher hit a couple of shots plus a free throw to make the score 11-29. Jordan Banks nailed a three-point shot to make the halftime score 14-32.
Jeana Sybesma made a layup to start the second half. Mallory Jeffers scored on an inbound pass to make the score 18-34. Tiffany made a three for 21-38, but the Lady Wolves trailed 21-40 at the end of the third period. Tiffany scored on an inbound play to make the score 23-40. Jeana made a five-foot jump shot to add more points at 25-43. Jonna Gallegos followed with a layup plus a free throw with 3:54 left in the game to make the score 28-43. Tiffany then added a free throw, and Brynn added a layup to make the score 31-46. The Lady Wolves took another time out with 2:34 left in the game. Tiffany made a layup with 42 seconds left and Jeana added another layup to end the game with the final score 35-50.
The Lady Wolves will play Borger at home Tuesday night. Borger defeated Estacado in other district action Friday night. Dalhart is now 9-8 for the season, 0-2 in district play. The Lady Wolves shot 60 percent from the free throw line, but only 38.7 percent from the field. The Lady Wolves only made two of 12 three-point shots compared to five of 11 for Levelland. Dalhart out rebounded Levelland 17-12, but Dalhart committed 22 turnovers to Levellands 13. The JV girls also lost their game.
Individual Statistics: Tiffany Schumacher led all scorers with 14 points, followed by Jeana Sybesma with 9, Jordan Banks 3, Brynn Dunham 4, Jonna Gallegos 3, Mallory Jeffers 2.
