Harper Scofield, a junior at Dalhart High School has received the honor of being the only Panhandle-area player named to the first team on the Class 3A ‘Associated Press’ All-State Football Team.

Scofield is a star defensive lineman for the Wolves; and due to both to his diligence and hard work has reached the playoffs for a school-record fourth consecutive year.  He is credited with 92 tackles, three caused fumbles, eight sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one blocked punt that he returned for a touchdown.

Another asset for the Wolves is that Scofield is presently a junior, so Dalhart will have another year with him.  Coach Stephen Young commented, “No matter what he does, from football to basketball to track, he works as hard as he can to continually improve.”

Coach Young further stated that beyond football “Harper is a tremendous young man and one of the hardest working players I’ve seen.” Harper is a true athlete, being involved in not only football but also basketball and track.  His perseverance and drive for continual improvement make his future a bright one.

Scofield credits his success to his team and coaches pushing him to succeed, “my fellow players and coaches motivate me to be the best player I can be.  Their continued support is the key to my success.”  Beyond high school Harper hopes “to attend college on scholarship and possibly major in sports medicine.”

Harper started playing football in third grade and hasn’t put the football down since.  We at the Texan congratulate you on a well deserved honor and look forward to being on the sidelines for your bright and promising future.
