School Board meeting held Wednesday evening

The board unanimously approved all items on the agenda. The board approved the application to waive the Texas Education Agency Bus Evacuation training for the second semester, as training was completed in the first semester; a change to the TASBY local policy was approved, which was the actual location for the meeting at the new administration building; and the Superintendent district goals, which were detailed in a handout attached to the agenda. The board considered and approved the consent agenda.
The board heard and considered applications for resignation, retirement and extended leave of several DISD employees. All were approved. They included two requests for 20-day extended maternity leave, two resignations and the announcement of one retirement.
Mrs. Jennifer Read, Vocational Coordinator and teacher for the district gave a presentation of CTE courses available for the 2009/2010 school year. On Friday, April 24, several members of the board will travel to Frank Phillips College for a meeting. Several members of the community were planning to attend as well.
Board members present were Rick Dunham, Vice President, Mark Handbury, Misty Mellema, Russell Routon, Gary Schniederjan, Randy Sherrill, David Foote, DISD Superintendent and Delbert Dodds, Business Manager.
The principals and assistant principals in attendance were High School Principal David Steele, High School Assistant Principal Denise Hutchinson, Jr. High School Principal John Machel, Intermediate School Principal Mark McCormick, Elementary School Principal Karen Taft, Assistant Elementary School Principal Sarah Nutter, and XIT School Principal Carolyn Field.
