Area residents took the pie

This year’s United Supermarkets “Feed a Friend” campaign was a huge success. Patrons who made a small donation to Meals on Wheels received a fresh-baked apple or pumpkin pie from United’s in-store bakery. Pies were aplenty, and so was the generosity of area residents.
Meals on Wheels Association of America is a member organization, and its membership comprises of Senior Nutrition Programs in the United States. MOWAA member programs throughout the country provide nutritious meals and other nutrition services to the elderly, homebound, disabled, frail, or at risk. All of the donations benefit the Meals on Wheels organization. All of the donations received during United Supermarket’s “Feed a Friend” program will benefit the Meals on Wheels organization.
Mark Conley at United located on Tennessee stated on Monday, “It went great, absolutely great. We collected a little over $5,000 in donations, and I’m not sure how many pies that was.” All of the pies were made fresh right at United’s in-store bakery. Conley noted, “The bakery did a wonderful job, people came in, they sat at a little table and talked about it. We had pies at all of the registers. We did really good for our little town.” He added, “For as tough as times are, people came through.”
The Meals on Wheels program receives all of the donations collected for their programs. For more information about MOWAA visit www.mowaa.org.
