Chamber of Commerce getting Dalhart in the Holiday spirit
The twinkling lights being draped around trees at Memorial Park signify that Christmastime is near. Kristine Olsen, Chamber of Commerce President, coordinates the decorating and lighting ceremony each year. This year’s festivities are scheduled for Wednesday, December 2nd at 5:30 p.m. Each year, Olsen ensures that thousands of lights frame the park and gazebo and line Denrock Avenue. The Christmas Season is officially underway once Santa turns on the park display with his magical powers.
The holiday decorations will light up the park through the New Year, and residents and visitors may enjoy the season as they drive down Seventh Street or through downtown. The lights will come on at dusk each evening. In year’s past, Olsen has placed the lights and decorations out as it snowed and in freezing weather, but this year the weather has been forgiving and barely a coat was required in the process. City employees gave a hand this year, as the Trustees from the Dalhart Unit have been busy completing the new shed out at Rita Blanca Lake. The Trustees generally get out and assist Olsen. The light posts were on Friday’s schedule as they were wrapped in garland.
Christmas also means that the Chamber’s shopping promotion and holiday calendar are on their way. Area residents anxiously await “Santa Cash” that may be spent at local businesses. Look for Santa Cash locations in upcoming editions of the Dalhart Texan. Turning Dalhart into a winter wonderland and encouraging patrons to use Santa Cash is one event that Olsen looks forward to embarking upon. She visits local business owners personally to get ready for the Holiday Season.
If snow falls in time for Christmas, then the picturesque scene at the park is only more beautiful. Everyone is encouraged to attend the lighting ceremony and get a Christmas candy from Santa.
