Feed a friend, receive a pie
By Robin Scott
Leaves are turning yellow, orange and red and falling from the trees, and snow has already flurried through the area. Pumpkins rest on porches and the fast approaching holiday season has become more evident. In less than a fortnight, turkeys will bring friends and family together. Tables will bear turkey, stuffing, green bean casserole and all of the trimmings that make family holiday gatherings special. One local business has found a way to add to the festivities while helping others who are not quite so fortunate during the holiday season.
This year, United Supermarkets are offering area residents a tasty way to get into a charitable spirit. By making a small donation while at the grocery store, patrons will help the Meals on Wheels program, and in return, receive a fresh-baked apple or pumpkin pie from United’s in-store bakery. The holiday program begins on Friday, November 13 and will go through the following Saturday, November 21.
Meals on Wheels Association of America is a member organization, and its membership is comprised of Senior Nutrition Programs in the United States. MOWAA Member programs throughout the country provide nutritious meals and other nutrition services to the elderly, homebound, disabled, frail, or at risk. All of the donations benefit the Meals on Wheels organization. All of the donations received during United Supermarket’s “Feed a Friend” program will benefit the Meals on Wheels organization.
Donations may be given to a cashier at United Supermarket or a Meals on Wheels volunteer. A coupon redeemable at any United Supermarket location will be given in exchange for the donation. Donations in any amount will gladly be accepted; however, donations as small as five dollars will entitle the giver to the pie coupon.
United Supermarket’s “Feed a Friend” should help make the holiday season better for everyone. The Meals on Wheels program will receive much needed funds to continue its much needed programs and those who give, receive a scrumptious pie that is sure to compliment any holiday dinner table.
