THE DALHART TEXAN

For 17 years, DAWGS (Dalhart Animals Wellness Group and Sanctuary) in Texas has served as a beacon of hope for abandoned and stray dogs in the far northwest Texas panhandle. With a facility located just a few minutes outside of Dalhart, hundreds of dogs each year are provided temporary shelter as they await their forever home.

DAWGS was formed by former elementary school teacher Diane Trull and her husband, Mark, along with her fourth-grade students, in 2003. The mission was and still is to provide a safe haven for the abandoned,  abused, neglected, and homeless pet population in the Texas panhandle. Since that time, 21,721 animals have been rescued and 20,704 animals have been adopted.
