As COVID-19 cases surge, local resources feel strain

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Dalhart Office of Emergency Management (OEM) reported 225 active cases of COVID-19 in Dallam and Hartley Counties, and the number of fatalities related to the virus had risen to 12 after two additional fatalities were reported in Dallam County on the Monday afternoon report card.

With the increase in the number of positive cases in the bi-county area in recent weeks, the local health authorities and members of the emergency management team have pleaded for members of the community wear masks and respect social distancing protocols. Dr. Matt Turner was featured in a video encouraging everyone to wear a mask and practice social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 last week.
