Location of burglary clarified
By Robin Scott
The recent accidental shooting of a 16-year-old stemmed from an earlier burglary that occurred in the 200 block of Osceola on Wedesday, October 27th at approximately 5:00 p.m. The Dalhart Texan first reported the tragic news on its Facebook page, followed by a full article on Friday, October 30th. A photograph that appeared with the full news article displayed the street signs for Osceola and 3rd Street. The burglary did not occur at that intersection, or at the house located at that intersection, and the photograph was for reference only. The name of the homeowner who was the victim of the burglary was not released as a part of the Dalhart Police Department’s press release and their identity remains in anonimity; however, for clarity, it is important to note that the burglary did not occur at the 300 block of Osceola, as the cutline for the photograph may have implied.
The location of the actual shooting of the 16-year-old was also not released by the press release provided by the police department. The youth apparently had been taken to the Emergency Room of Coon Memorial Hospital. Police then secured the scene of the shooting after learning from hospital officials that a shooting victim was in the ER. At the time of this update, the status of the youth’s condition is not known, although he was transported by Lifeflight to Amarillo with serious injuries.
