Local Charities Receive Donations from the 2009 Valero Tourney

Posted by: tdt -

Local children’s charities attended a luncheon at the Hampton Inn in Dumas on October 20th where they received a total of $250,000 from employees of the Valero McKee Refinery, who raised the funds through the 2009 Valero Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic in San Antonio, Texas.

The 2009 Valero Benefit for Children local recipients were: CASA 69, Inc.,, Dumas Discovery Center, Hope & Healing Place, Panhandle Children’s Foundation, Inc., and Safe Place.

“Without the generosity of Valero’s many business partners and sponsors, Valero would not be able to provide this level of financial support for children’s charities,” said Rich Marcogliese, Valero’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and the company executive overseeing the 2009 Valero Texas Open. “This is a true partnership among Valero employees, our sponsors and the PGA TOUR. Together, we are able to achieve success both with the tournament and assisting those in need.”

The majority of the money given out by Valero at the 2009 charity luncheon will stay local.  With donations from companies like Valero, many of the nonprofit and charity organizations in Dumas/Moore County area are able to provide services to children in the area who need it most.

CASA 69 Inc. received $40,000 in funds which they will use to provide volunteer training, according to Ann Bookout, Executive Director of CASA 69, Inc.  In the past year CASA has helped over 60 children in the Dumas area.  Bookout says, “The volunteers who work for us are like angels, you can give a child all the toys and material things in the world, but it is the people in their lives who really matter and make a difference.  Thanks to donations like this we are able to give everyone of our volunteers the training necessary to help the children who need us.”
