Just over 77 acres burned in a grass fire late Thursday afternoon in Channing. The fire was reported just after 4 p.m. near Seventh Street in Channing. Bi- County Emergency Manager Curtis Brown said the fire was started by a power line. The U.S. Drought Monitor lists most of Dallam County and parts of Hartley County in “extreme drought” as of Thursday. The remainder of the bi-county area is listed in moderate to severe drought conditions. Both the Dallam and Hartley County Commissioners called special meetings yesterday to consider implementing burn bans.
