Sales tax revenues down 9.3 percent

Sales tax revenue for the month of April totaled $2.58 billion, according to state comptroller Glenn Hegar. That’s down 9.3 percent compared to April 2019, the steepest decline since January 2010. 

Sales tax revenue that is remitted in April is mostly based on sales made in March. Social  distancing requirements went into effect in late March, and a steeper decline is expected next month as a result of social distancing through April.
