City moves forward with housing development

The development of new businesses in Dalhart has generated new jobs for the community over the several years. But, that has led to a unique problem for the city. While the number of jobs has increased, the number of housing has not, leaving the city now with a negative unemployment rate.

While an exact unemployment rate isn’t calculated, Dalhart City Manager James Stroud said the negative unemployment rate is determined based on the number of people who commute to the city each week for work.
