Zelda Beth Lang has retired from The Dalhart Texan after nearly 50 years working as a reporter and editor.

Lang was born to Albert and Margery Law at what is now Coon Memorial Hospital in 1937. Her father owned the newspaper, and growing up in the newspaper business fostered her love for reporting.

“He was the editor in Clayton, N.M., and then he came to Dalhart and bought he paper, I would guess in about 1947,” she said. “He was the editor and my mother went to work, and she was also an editor. But she worked down there for years while I was in school.”

Lang received her first assignment for The Dalhart Texan when she was 12 years old.
