Dallam, Hartley Counties receive StormReady recognition at commissioners’ meeting

Dallam and Hartley County Commissioners were presented with the StormReady signs for completing the necessary requirements to reach Storm Ready status. Mike Gittinger of the National Weather Service of Amarillo made the presentation along with Dalhart fire chief Curtis Brown. Pictured are the commissioners for both Dallam and Hartley Counties.

Dallam and Hartley Counties have been named as StormReady by the Amarillo StormReady Advisory Board and National Weather Service. The county commissioners were presented with signs and information about the achievement in their joint meeting held August 12.

In order to be StormReady certified, a community must:
• Establish a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center
• Have more than one way to receive severe weather warnings and forecasts and to alert the public
• Create a system that monitors weather
