Dalhart Intermediate student Tristan Howe wrote an essay that placed third nationally in the Veterans Day Essay Contest. The contest was sponsored by the Conlin Family Caring Fund and was open to all students from ages seven through 19.

In order to enter the contest, students were required to interview a veteran of the United States military. After interviewing their veteran, the student was then required to write a 500 to 750-word essay about that veteran that included specific information, including why the veteran entered the armed services, what branch the veteran served in, the years that the veteran served, and so on.
