‘Tis the season to shop local for the holidays

Friday marked the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season, as shoppers headed for Black Friday sales across the area, followed by Shop Small Saturday, which focuses on holiday shopping at local businesses, as opposed to national chains.

The Dalhart Chamber of Commerce released statistics last week backing the need to shop local when doing holiday spending, which states that if every family spent an extra $10 a month in a locally-owned store instead of a national chain, it would generate over $9.3 billion to the economy.
