A small Chevrolet Pick Up Truck driven by a Dalhart High School student was involved in an odd one-vehicle accident on Thursday, September 24th.  The vehicle flipped onto its side after hitting the Quonset hut that sits adjacent to Memorial Stadium.

David Steele, Principal at Dalhart High School, Dalhart Police Chief Tom Sanford and Capt. Robert Stout with the Dalhart Police Department were on the scene.  Steele generally responds to traffic accidents involving students during school hours.  Along with the young driver were two passengers, also students at DHS.

The accident occurred on Tennessee Avenue near the intersection of Tennessee and 7th Street and next door to Photo Makers.  Capt. Stout stated on Friday, “It appears that the driver was making a turn and may have been unable to get his other hand free in time to correct out of the turn.  His vehicle stayed in the turn and ended up hitting the Quonset hut.”

The building suffered damages to the sheet metal, and the truck suffered body damage.  The surprised driver and passengers were not injured in the accident, and a witness later reported that the driver was able to operate the vehicle the next day.
