The Dalhart City Council deliberated in executive session on two items at their Tuesday, September 22 meeting. The council then reconvened in open session to take action on these two items.

Council members voted to pursue the purchase of the Homfield property, and voted to allow the city attorney and city manager to retain counsel in the matter of DeMots vs. the City of Dalhart.

The council then set the fiscal year for October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010 and adopted the fiscal year budget. The tax rate was set at 0.3333 per $100 valuation, which is the same rate as last year. However, the rate is actually an increase of a little over five percent due to an increase in property valuations. The council also passed an ordinance to provide for a penalty on delinquent taxes to defray the collection costs.

Council members approved an inter-local agreement regarding insurance and approved a resolution in support of David Spinhirne to represent Channing on the Hartley County Appraisal District Board.
