Boston woman to run through Dalhart
By Robin Scott
On her way from Boston, Massachusetts to San Diego, California is 23-year-old Katy Visco. Katy’s trek began on March 29th and is scheduled to end in December when Katy arrives in San Diego. The more than 3,000-mile run brings Katy right through Dalhart on September 28th, and she’ll meet with local kids and members of track teams while she’s in Dalhart.
Katy is a very inspirational and driven young woman. On her website, www.paveyourlane.com, she states that she “Hopes to inspire people across America to follow their passions, empower individuals to connect to what gives them life and pave their own lane to pursue it, while making a positive impact on the world,” and she also hopes to make history and be the youngest woman to accomplish a solo run across America.
When Katy arrives in Dalhart, she will have run more than 1,900 miles. She graduated from Carleton College, a private Liberal Arts College in Northfield, Minnesota, in 2007. Katy’s run will raise money for Girls on the Run, a non-profit prevention program that encourages young girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running.
Major cities that the nine-month long run passes through have included Providence, Rhode Island; New Haven, Connecticut; New York City; Cleveland, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; and Topeka, Kansas. After leaving Dalhart, Katy will travel through Albuquerque and Phoenix on her way to San Diego.
Anyone who would like to run with Katy as she leaves Dalhart may join her on October 1st. Runners from the states that she has run in already have joined her as she leaves each town and on her way to the next.
