DHS announces Homecoming King and Queen candidates

Students at Dalhart High School collectively nominated eight classmates as the 2009/10 candidates for Homecoming King and Queen. The eight were selected as those students who received the greatest number of votes with each class nominating one set of seniors as their candidates.
The juniors nominated Marlee Colleen Reynolds and Dusty Stapleton. Marlee is he daughter of Jim Bob and Thedra Reynolds. She was born in Dumas in 1992. Her hobbies and interests include volleyball, basketball and track. She stated, “My favorite things to do are play volleyball and hang out with my friends.” Her favorite teacher this year is Coach Josh Young. She also stated, “My favorite thing about myself is that I’m really easy going.” After graduation, Marlee plans to play volleyball for Colorado State University. The Reynolds’ are members of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Dusty is the son of Kurtis and Dana Abla and they attend the First Baptist Church. Dusty was born in Trinidad, Colorado in 1991 and just recently celebrated his 18th birthday. He noted, “My favorite thing to do is chill with friends.” His favorite teacher this year is Mrs. Sorrels. He has not yet decided what his plans are after graduation. He noted that his favorite thing about himself is that he’s funny. His hobbies include football.
The seniors nominated Mallory Elizabeth Jeffers and John Bradley Peoples. Mallory is the daughter of Gary and Bitsy Jeffers. She was born in Manhattan, Kansas in 1991. Her hobbies and interests include sports and, “Working to always be better.” She is a member of the First Baptist Church. Mallory’s brother was a 2005/06 Homecoming candidate and the 2006 Basketball Homecoming King. Mallory’s favorite things to do are to read, watch movies and spend time with her family. Her favorite teacher has been Mrs. Richmond. After graduation, Mallory plans to attend college and major in sports therapy and education. She also plans to play basketball in college. She stated, “My favorite thing about myself is that I am a very independent person, and I want to think that I can accomplish anything.”
John is the son of Paul and Stephanie Peoples. He was born right here in Dalhart in 1991. His favorite teacher this year is Mr. Smith who teaches Medical Terminology. John stated, “My hobbies are sports and working out. I like music and sports.” He also noted that his favorite thing to do is to hang out with friends. After graduation, John plans to attend college. He noted that his favorite thing about himself is his personality.
Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at Friday night’s Homecoming game held at Memorial Stadium during halftime in a game against Childress.
