The USDA announced Tuesday that the Obama administration has launched new trade enforcement action against China at the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding government support provided for Chinese rice, wheat and corn.

The complaint addresses excess support China provides in excess to its WTO commitments. According to information from the USDA, China maintains this support through “market price support” programs. Pursuant to the market price support programs, China announces on an annual basis the minimum prices at which the
government will purchase Indica rice, Japonica rice, wheat, and corn in major producing provinces during the harvest season.
