THE DALHART TEXAN

Sunday, May 15, was observed as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the following week is observed as National Police Week. This year marks the 25th anniversary of honoring our law enforcement heroes following a proclamation in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to claim May 15 and a joint resolution established by Congress in the same year to claim the week.

National Police Week gives special recognition to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Dalhart Intermediate School fifth grade students showed their appreciation for local law enforcement this last week by presenting them with thank-you posters and baked goods. Officers from Dalhart Police Department, Dallam and Hartley County Sheriff’s Offices, DPS and DISD Police Department were recognized.

Dalhart High School Law Enforcement students distributed blue ribbons and signs to Dalhart residents and businesses beginning Friday and through the weekend.

For anyone wishing to show appreciation for local law enforcement during National Police Week, please contact Lisa Conner at 806-268-1772.
