15th Annual XIT Antique Tractor Show and Pull

Posted by: tdt -

Wayne Speer, Secretary and Treasurer of the XIT Antique Tractor Association, described the 15th Annual XIT Antique Tractor Show and Pull as, “Another good year.”  The annual event occurs during the XIT Rodeo and Reunion celebration and is highly anticipated.

This year had 126 total hooks for all four divisions over the two-day pull.   Speer noted, “A hook is each time that a tractor is hooked to the weight sled.” Tractors arrived from Colorado, Amarillo, and of course the Dalhart area.  Pokey the Clown (Doug Smith from Panhandle) helped again this year with flagging the tractors for starts and stops. Pokey has helped for 11 years and also provides a sound system, shade for spectators, and refreshments including chocolate milk donated by Plains Milk for all drivers.

To close out the pull this year, a benefit raffle for Hospice was held in memory of Tim Vogel.  Speer stated, “Tim was one of the founders and major participants of the XIT Antique Tractor Show and Pull.  He passed away in January of this year.” Bruce Johnson won the raffle, and he donated his winnings back to Hospice.  Speer noted, “We want to express our appreciation to him for his generous donation!”

Every year a magnet picturing an antique tractor is given to each participating driver. Tim Vogel’s 1941 John Deere G that he had rebuilt was chosen as the tractor on this year’s magnet.

Speer also stated, “We appreciate the many businesses and individuals who sponsored us this year.  We also want to recognize our two new secretaries/announcers for this year’s Pull.  Stephanie Watson and Holly Vogel volunteered to help and did a great job.”
