Xtra Degree plays summer basketball
A group of ten girls from Dalhart, Amarillo and Snyder completed their summer basketball playing July 11-12 in Amarillo. The team, Xtra Degree, participated in seven basketball tournaments this summer. They played a total of 35 games over 3 ½ months. Dalhart team members and their last completed grade in school include: Karley White - 8, Brynn Dunham - 9, Shelby Taylor - 8, Jordan Banks - 10, Kassidy Lenz - 8, Jeana Sybesma – 9, and Jennifer Quint – 8; team member from Snyder: Skylar Morris - 10; and team members from Amarillo: Lexi O’Hair – 8, and Elizabeth McDaniel - 8. The team was coached by WTAMU Lady Buff Megan McLain.
The team entered tournaments as a JV team, which consists of 9th/10th grade girls. In some instances, the JV bracket did not make, so they played in the Varsity bracket, which consisted of 11th/12th grade girls. Xtra Degree participated in the following tournaments: Hoop 10 in Amarillo, April 25th and 26th – 2nd Place JV Division; Hoop 10 in Amarillo, May 16th and 17th – 5th Place 10th Grade Division; Hoop 10 in Amarillo, May 22nd thru 24th – 1st Place 9th Grade Division; MAYB in Colorado Springs, CO, June 6th and 7th – 7th Place Varsity Division; Primetime in Abilene, June 19th thru 21st – 1st in Silver Bracket of Varsity Division; Primetime in Lewisville, July 3rd thru 5th – 5th Place JV Division; Primetime in Amarillo, July 11th and 12th – 1st Place Varsity Division. When the girls won the Silver bracket at the Abilene Primetime Tournament, this qualified them for the Primetime Nationals held July 22 thru 25. They were unable to actually attend this tournament due to prior commitments by the girls.
The points scored for the year was 1,470. Sky Morris had high points for the year with 300 points. Karley White scored 211 points, Brynn Dunham scored 193 points, Kassidy Lenz scored 170 points, Jennifer Quint scored 139 points, Elizabeth McDaniel scored 117 points, Jeana Sybesma scored 108 points, Lexi O’Hair scored 93 points, Jordan Banks scored 90 points and Shelby Taylor scored 49 points. The team made 99 three-pointers during the summer season. Karley White had 55, Brynn Dunham had 14, Jennifer Quint had 9, Jordan Banks had 7, Sky Morris had 5, Lexi O’Hair had 4, Kassidy Lenz had 2, Elizabeth McDaniel had 2 and Shelby Taylor had 1.
