73rd XIT Queen Crowned
By Nathan French
Jamie Coleen Frazier was crowned as the 73rd XIT Rodeo Queen Saturday evening at the XIT Arena. Warm weather, enthused fans, and a great day for rodeo made the Queen’s Contest enjoyable.
Jamie is the 16 year old daughter of Joel and Donna Frazier. She is the granddaughter of the late Neal and Jessie Petty and Sarah Jo and the late JD Frazier. Jamie will be a junior at the Dalhart High School this coming year, where she is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class holding a GPA of 3.769. Hobbies of Jamie’s include team roping, basketball, golf, and playing with her nephew, Ethan. Jamie is an active member the United States Team Roping Association, AQHA, and Sub Debs. Among Jamie’s many accomplishments, she was Little Miss XIT and a competitor in the United States Team Roping National Finals. Upon completion of high school, Jamie plans on attending Texas Tech University and majoring in medicine.
At Saturday’s Queen Contest, the two XIT queen candidates, Jamie Frazier and Rebecca Richardson were required to answer at least ten questions and demonstrate their riding ability in a set pattern chosen by the judges and an additional pattern of the candidate’s choice. Both candidates responded to questions well and both demonstrated exceptional riding skill. In the end, after deliberation by the contest’s judges, Jamie was chosen as Queen with former XIT Queen Laramie Wing passing on the crown of a tradition 73 years strong.
As the reigning XIT Queen, Jamie will represent XIT Rodeo and Reunion for numerous functions throughout the year. Jamie exudes the true XIT Spirit while demonstrating the grace and poise of a seasoned cowgirl. We at the Texan want to commend both candidates on a job well done, and congratulate Jamie as the 2009 XIT Rodeo and Reunion Queen.
