Dalhart football and volleyball begin two a day practices
The Dalhart Wolves football and Lady Wolves volleyball teams began two a day practices on Monday. Both teams will be looking to repeat or better last years district record. The football team went 4-1 in district while the Lady Wolves were 10-0. Early Monday’s practice did not include freshmen who will meet with coach Young in the afternoon to pick up equipment. There were close to 60 players working out on the field during the morning practice gearing up for their first scrimmage against WT High in Stinnett on the 15th of August.
The Lady Wolves had a good turnout for the first day of workouts with about 55 prospective Wolves showing up. Out of the number showing up coach Satterfield would like to keep around 36 for the three teams. The next week will be pretty intense with players trying to earn a spot on either the freshmen, JV or Varsity team. The Wolves will be returning five seniors and one junior from last years team and will have a good group from last years JV and freshmen teams to choose from. There are high expectations for this team. Shelbie Wilt was named district MVP and nominated for first team honors along with teammates Marlee Reynolds, and Katelyn Albers with Mallory Jeffers making second team. Along with Coach Satterfield and JV coach Audrey Jurley there will be three new additions to the staff with Leigh Ann Lay coaching the freshmen team with coaches Nicole Guidry and Dylan Mitchell at the Junior High. This year’s strongest competition in district could be Lubbock Cooper and the Lady Wolves will be working towards that challenge beginning this Friday as they travel to Caprock for a 5pm scrimmage. Saturday the team will host Randall High at 2pm for a scrimmage as well.
The following Monday they will play Tascosa, Amarillo High, and Randall followed by Dumas and Highland Park on Tuesday. If you are looking for a break during the XIT activities on Saturday stop by and support the Lady Wolves at the High School gym.
