Happy Memorial Day

Holidays in the newspaper business, even twice-weekly papers, usually mean we have to adjust our schedule, like a lot of businesses, to accommodate for the day off, or just go ahead and work the holiday. And, if we’re off, the work does not go away, it just stacks up. But it’s always nice to have a day off even if it means adjusting schedules and coming back to two days of work rather than one.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday where men and women who died while serving our country are remembered. Don’t confuse it with Veteran’s Day, where we celebrate all whohave served and are serving our country. It’s celebrated on the last Monday of May and used to be called Decoration Day because it was customary to decorate the grave of a of the American Civil War Union and Confederate soldiers who died in that war.
