2009 Valedictorian continues to receive recognition
By Robin Scott
Dalhart Independent School District Superintendent David Foote was pleased to announce on Monday that DHS 2009 Valedictorian Jasmine Bohlender was invited to Austin to meet Governor Rick Perry. The invitation was extended to Jasmine due to her outstanding scholastic success, including winning first place finish in the State’s UIL competition in accounting and being named Valedictorian.
Jasmine is unable to make the trip to Austin as she is in New Guinea on a mission trip. In a telephone interview on Tuesday, Jasmine’s father, Rodney Bohlender, commented, “I’m sure she’d love to meet the Governor, but she’s on a five-week mission trip with New Tribes Mission on a mission called ‘Interface.’ It’s a mission training.”
Bohlender also explained that Jasmine will be entering Texas A&M University in the fall and plans to study pre-med. He noted, “She plans to study pre-med and become a medical missionary.” He credited her experience while shadowing Dr. Nathan Vermedahl with Jasmine’s decision to attend Texas A&M. Upon returning from New Guinea, Jasmine will almost immediately head to College Station. Her orientation occurred in June and she and her parents traveled to the University.
Many Dalhart residents remember Jasmine not only for her exceptional scholastic achievements, but also for her beautiful acapela rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at numerous events in Dalhart.
