Get out and roam in your own backyard

Not far from Dalhart is some of the state’s largest amount of public land ready for multiple uses. With about three percent of the land in Texas public, finding space to hike, hunt, camp, sight in your rifle, picnic, or view wildlife in its natural habitat is sometimes hard to come by. But in Dallam County, that’s not the issue with over 77,000 acres of public land in the Rita Blanca National Grasslands not far from town.

“We want to get people excited about this great outdoor resource,” Joachim Treptow a biologist with the Texas Parks and Wildlife said. “This is national land is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and has abundant wildlife common to this region.”
