Special STEM program engages students with Robotics

With the help of a $10,000 grant from the Dalhart Education Foundation, the Dalhart Junior High School sixth grade math and science students will learn hands-on, highly technological programing through a robotics program offered by something they are familiar with. Legos.

“The Dalhart Junior High believes implementing a robotics curriculum will strongly impact our students in the areas of STEM Education,” said art teacher Keli Frates who helps to write the grants the school receives from the foundation said. “Robotics engages students in complex and higher order thinking skills, which is a priority for 21st Century Education.”

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education is vital to the future success of our students in their continued education, eventually in the workplace and in society as the world becomes more and more technical. The district plans to begin with the sixth grade students and then eventually integrate the program in seventh and eighth grade curriculum Junior High School computer teacher Colette Moorhouse said.
