The Dalhart Golden Wolves had the best winning percentage in the state of Texas from 1961 to 1970 and the team got together for a reunion on Friday in the city where they were so successful in football.
Dalhart’s success and history has been well documented over the last few weeks, but now that many of the men from those teams are back in town there is still more to say about them.
Dalhart’s coaching staff in the 1963 season would wind up being one of the most decorated coaching staffs in high school history. And that staff was led by head coach Doug Ethridge.
Ethridge is the third winningest coach in Dalhart history with 38 wins and he helped the ’63 team to the state semifinals and a 13-1 record.
“The guys at Dalhart had great attitudes,” Ethridge said at the luncheon held for the players from the Decade of Dominance. “They did what we asked them to do. They really didn’t fuss. They worked hard in the summers.
