Golden Wolves drop Dumas 34-28 behind Diaz’ 100-yard game

The Dalhart Golden Wolves got their season off to a 2-0 start with a 34-28 win over the Dumas Demons on Friday night behind a solid running game and opportunistic play on the defensive side of the ball.
The Golden Wolves got their running game going just like they did in the season opener as they posted more than 300 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns in the win. Guillermo Davila and Val Diaz each had two touchdowns on the night and Conner Smith added the last one to round out the scoring for Dalhart.
But the running game is always going to be there for the Golden Wolves. That’s what they do. That is what their head coach Steven Young wants to do, and he has used that run ning game to turn Dalhart into a perennial playoff team out of District 1-3A.
But what made the difference on Friday night for the Golden Wolves was a couple of key plays that came from an unlikely source on the offensive side of the ball, but one who is starting to make a name for himself on the defensive side.
The player in question is Justice Thelander. Now Thelander is a junior defensive back and wide receiver and he was moved up to the varsity squad in 2012 and was really thrown into the fire and had to adjust on the run
