There was a coon tail rattlesnake killed just outside of the Dalhart post office on Monday morning. The snake was 57” in length and had eight and a half buttons.
Traci Yanke was one of the first people to hear about the snake and she headed out with several other people to see the snake and to get rid of it. They were told there was a snake out by the collection boxes and they made their way out to the scene.
When they arrived, there was a farmer trying to lasso the snake, but it had bowed up against a fence and they were unable to get a hold of it.
So Glen Cummings took the hoe that they had grabbed from the post office and killed the snake.
Yanke said this was the first one she has seen at the post office and she hadn’t heard of one being so close into town except in a few rare instances.
