Grand jury indicts Dalhart woman for alleged embezzlement

Penny Murray Romero, was arrested on Saturday, July 20 on a warrant issued and served by the Dallam County Sheriff’s Department. She had been indicted on Thursday, July 18 by a grand jury for alleged embezzlement. David Green, D.A. of Dumas is prosecutor. Mrs. Romero spent only about two hours in the Dallam County Jail Saturday according to records at the jail.  She was released after posting a $20,000 bond. To bond out a person only has to come up with 10% of the total bond or show title to a vehicle.
Mrs. Romero worked as bookkeeper for Mission Auto Supply for several years. Owner Gary Hancock discovered the problem in March this year and Mrs. Romero has not worked there since March.  Hancock said he found out this had been going on for seven years.
