Jotting Judi - Keep Circling
A few weeks ago I entitled my column “The Circle of Life.” Since then, I keep running into the word “circle.” Today I ran face to face with it again in the story of the Israelites and the siege of Jericho. The commander of the Lord’s army told Joshua he would give them the city. But, the military strategy was different to say the least.
On the seventh day of the month seven priests carrying trumpets were to march in front of the Ark of the Covenant followed by the armed guards. The seven priests were to blow trumpets, but the foot soldiers were to be silent and just march. After they marched around the city, they were to return to camp and spend the night. I wonder what the people inside the city walls were thinking. Perhaps, they were laughing. I wonder about the talk around the Israelite campfires outside the city walls. Certainly they must have wondered how foolish they looked. They might have thought climbing the walls or storming the gates would have been a better plan. (I admit, I often try to help God with a plan!)
