First Monday reminder

Posted by: tdt -

The Dalhart Emergency Management personnel have slated the first Monday of each month to test the outdoor tornado sirens. “This has been in the works for some time,” explained Dalhart Fire Department Chief Curtis Brown. The sirens are outdoor warnings only, and Brown encourages all Dallam and Hartley County residents to sign up for the Resolve to be Ready emergency information notification systems. The system can also be used to give family members a warning notification when an emergency situation exists in other areas where loved ones may live. This keeps the lines of communication open with college students, elderly relatives and can also provide information while traveling in Texas. The system is user friendly and may be updated as often as needed.
Brown recapped emergency procedures; move to the most interior room of your home, usually a closet or bathroom, cover you head by wearing a motorcycle, football or baseball helmet when available, “Most people are injured or killed by head trauma,” Brown elaborated. He also wanted to emphasize safety for pets, “Take them with you in the safest place available.” Brown also supports tagging and micro chipping all pets in the event they are separated from their owners in an emergency situation.
