Friday morning at approximately 9:15 a.m. the bi-county emergency management personnel were launched into action when the Dallam-Hartley Counties 911 Dispatch received a call for assistance in Hartley.
A van with six occupants, four of whom were children, had overturned in the median. “Everyone was wearing safety belts,” stated Hartley County Chief Deputy, Tim Bell. According to Bell, the van was traveling in the far right lane, and the driver thought they were exiting the highway into Hartley. The driver of the van apparently made the tight loop at a speed faster than posted causing the van to overturn. All of the occupants were transported to Coon Memorial Hospital for evaluation. “Using safety equipment pays off,” explained Bell, “we see it all the time.”
