Big rain for small town

March and April left us high and dry, but May decided to be nice. Clouds rolled in, thunder rumbled and Dalhart enjoyed its first official spring thunderstorm Thursday, May 9.
Officially, Dalhart recorded 0.38” of rain at the airport, giving us a total of 0.43” for the month, according to the National Weather Service office in Amarillo. reported rain totals of between 0.45” and 0.55” just south of Dalhart. Totals rose to 0.80” along the Boise City Hwy. north of town and along Hwy. 54 east. Farmland around Hartley saw about 0.20” of rain. Further south, the NWS received a report of 0.09” just east of Channing.
